Cachalot is an Earth-like ocean planet with a breathable oxygen atmosphere, located within Humanx Commonwealth territory in the Milky Way Galaxy.
Its surface is almost entirely covered in a vast worldwide ocean, with the sole exception of a few scattered coral-made islands with multicolored sand that glitters like it was made of pulverized glass. The effect is beautiful, although it might become so bright as to require the use of special sunglasses to avoid being blinded by it.
Cachalot is most well-known as the world to which Earth cetaceans of several different species were relocated, including porpoises, orcas, catodonts and rorquals. After centuries of being hunt down and slaughtered on Earth, the cetaceans on Cachalot finally managed to live in peace and develop their own sapience and a non-technological civilization dedicated to the pursuit of philosophy.
The very few Humans on Cachalot live on floating cities and small island settlements, and are forced by Commonwealth law to never disturb the whales.[1]
